July 16, 2008 - Kitimat Council Supports Battery Cage Ban
The City of Kitimat recently weighed in with their support for cage free eggs.
Moved by Councillor Singh and seconded by Councillor MacFarlane, the City sent a letter to the Provincial Government and the Federal Government stating that Kitimat City Council opposes battery cage egg production based on the inherent cruelty of confining egg-laying hens in battery cages; and that a letter be written to the Union of British Columbia Municipalities requesting all members to adopt a similar initiative.
The following is a copy of the letters sent to the Provincial Minister of Agriculture Honourable Stan Hagen and the Federal Minister of Agriculture Honourable Gerry Ritz.
